Teacher-friendly
Teachers have long understood that getting students up and moving is key for understanding ordered pairs. However, constructing a life-sized coordinate plane in a classroom is time consuming, cumbersome, and involves materials that aren’t practical for repeated use.
Instead, with Walk The Plane, you can roll it out, roll it up, and use it year after year.

As a math teacher with over thirty years of classroom experience, I understand the importance of ordered pairs. Proficiency with ordered pairs is essential to building a strong foundation in algebra and geometry. In order to engage students, I’ve seen teachers make various DIY attempts to bring the coordinate plane to life. It’s time for a durable and effective solution that is teacher and student friendly.
This product is amazing. I absolutely love Walk The Plane because students move around, engage kinesthetically, and learn together.

Walk the Plane supports kinesthetic learning of
- Ordered pairs
- Graphing lines
- Slope
- Mapping intercepts
- Transformations
- Functions
- Domain and range
- Graph analysis
- And so much more

Christine Pfeil MBA
Christine is proud to join her mom in sharing the mission of Walk the Plane. As a middle schooler, she had her mom as a middle school teacher, and she still solves algebraic equations the same way her mom taught her all those years ago!
Throughout her years working in educational access and as a college advisor, Christine has always valued education and student support, and she’s thrilled to now work alongside her mom and cousin, helping students succeed with Walk the Plane.

"Manipulatives offer students opportunities to recognize that they can understand, rather than memorize, mathematics.
It’s fair to say that manipulatives play a critical role in making mathematics more accessible to all students, ensuring they feel included and valued in the learning process."

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I store the Walk The Plane mat?
It is best to keep the mat rolled while storing to avoid wrinkling. If wrinkles do appear, a hair dryer will smooth out the vinyl mat nicely!
What’s the best way to transport the mat?
The mat is very light so it is easy to transport. Just fold or roll it up and carry it to your destination. It should be stored rolled to avoid wrinkles.
Can Walk The Plane be used outdoors?
Yes. Since the mat can be cleaned easily, you can use it indoors and outdoors.
Do students need to take their shoes off to use the mat?
No, they should wear their shoes. Shoes have more grip, and the mat can be easily cleaned, if needed.
What is the best way to clean the Walk The Plane mat?
You can dust the mat with a cloth. If you have to spot clean, make sure the mat is thoroughly dry before use.
Can I write on the mat?
We have found that some markers do not erase fully, so we do not recommend writing on the mat.
The vinyl mat works best with removable stickers or laminated objects that you can write on or erase.

How do I use this Walk The Plan in my classroom?
If you need inspiration for an engaging way to incorporate Walk The Plane in your lesson, please email [email protected] with your lesson topic and we would be happy to collaborate on a lesson to get your students up and moving.
Why is the grid sized from -5 to +5?
The mat was designed to balance size with walkability and usability. It’s large enough to be walkable, while being small enough for most classrooms. You can use post-it notes over the number line to change the scale if needed.
Do you make a mat of Quadrant I only?
Not at this time, but we may consider this if we get enough interest.
What material is the Walk The Plane mat made out of?
The mat is vinyl. Students should never run on the mat and should always be supervised.
